So we are on the road again – it seems like the past year we are always going going going. This time I am heading to Fort Jackson, SC to watch my nephew’s graduation from boot camp. He did really well by all accounts….. Got a medal and everything. They called him a stud, LOL!!!

Have a great weekend and peace out, y’all.

what else is there to say?

I mean, there SHOULD be more, right? It’s a nice Saturday, and I should be outside.

Instead I am here, wondering how much damage I did to my knee yesterday. Sitting on the couch. With a cat in my lap, a dog next to me, and a Kidlet trying to entice the dog off of the couch so she can be the one next to me.

And me wondering how I can them ALL off of the couch so I can have it to myself.

First of all – I said tween.  I’m going to hell.

So I’ve had this …. affliction lately.  I’ve been cooking.  Yes, cooking.  Someone pick my mother up – I think she’s convinced that the apocolypse has happened.

Okay, now that she’s upright again, I can’t explain it.  I just can’t.  I looked at my pretty pink KitchenAid mixer and thought “hmm, I need to use that.”  And so I did.

So I went to the Pioneer Woman’s website, and found a strawberry cake recipe that looked complicated when finished but like I could follow the directions.

And I made it for the 4th of July.  Along with homemade salsa.  I know!  What got into me?!?

So, the cake was good (it did fall, in the interest of disclosure but that made it yummy because then I had to fill that hole with homemade cream cheese icing and oh, my.)  The salsa was good but needed more heat.  Recipe came from my friend Larry and he nailed it.

About a week went by and I got my organic vegetable delivery and of course there were apples because there are always apples.  And recently I discovered how easy it is to make applesauce, and how yummy it is, so much better than what you get in the jar and so…. I made more.  TheKidlet loves the stuff.  And well, since I was in the kitchen, I made more salsa and this time, I nailed it.  Even TheKidlet was like “Wow, Mommy.”  Right before she ate it all.  Seriously.  My kid ate all of my salsa!

And the next day?  I made homemade cinnamon rolls with caramel icing.  Yes, I did.  I still have 15 if you want one.  Goodness.  Cut that recipe in half!  But… mmmm.  And so you know what I made for dinner?  Homemade pizza – spinach, tomato, mozzarella, and chicken.  The toppings were good.  The crust… eh.  Not so much.  I now have another recipe in my arsenal to try next time – so we’ll see how that goes.

I have the stuff to make bread this weekend, too 🙂  I can’t wait.

Tonight, well, today, I made a pork loin in the crockpot, using a pulled pork recipe from Emeril.  I’m too lazy to link it 😉  And I made the bbq sauce too.  And sweet potato fries.  The pork was REALLY good.  The BBQ sauce, phenomenal.  The sweet potato fries – eh.  If anyone can give me tips on how to get a crispy sweet potato fry, I’d appreciate it.  Cause mine surely weren’t.

Now, in all of this, I’ve not mentioned TheKidlet except for eating, right?   Well, the baking frenzy…. TheKidlet helped out.  She measured, she poured, she put stuff in the mixing bowl, she cut things up, she was right there for the prep.   She had a great time.  Tonight’s dinner, she made the salads.    I stole an idea from Kristina, and am encouraging her to cook dinner one night per week; we’ve chosen Wednesdays.  I will be there to supervise but it will be 99% her.  (We started this one time before but then got distracted and so didn’t get far.)  Tomorrow’s menu is ravioli and red sauce.   Simple, but the menu is her choice, and I’m okay with starting simple.

I do not know why regular phone companies haven’t come up with something this phenomenal.  Really.  No, seriously.  I am astounded at the capabilities of this service.

And if it works as advertised?  *swoon*

So, yeah, I’m talking about Google Voice.  Formerly GrandCentral.

One number.  Forwards to any and all other numbers you may have.  Cumulatively or selectively.

Meaning, you can have ALL calls forward to your work phone, or only those contacts that you have listed as WORK contacts.  The rest?  Forwarded to your cell phone.  Someone you don’t want to talk to?  Either send them to voicemail immediately, mark it as spam (voicemail with no phones ring) or BLOCK the call – meaning they get an ‘out of service’ message.  How cool is that?

You can screen your calls – ask callers to leave a name before they are connected.  Or listen in to voicemail as it’s being left.

It sends SMS and email transcripts of your voicemails.

You can use it to call any US number for free.  It will call your number, then connect you to the number you wish to talk to.  Record your calls.  Record a different voicemail greeting for each of your contact groups (friends, family, work calls).  Switch phones while you’re on a call (between your cell and land lines, for instance.)

A mobile site for accessing your voicemail transcripts.  Download, forward, and save your voicemails.

Oh.  And it’s all free.  Did I mention that?

Google Voice.

How much restraint could you have shown? I’m not sure I could have shown that much.
