Cause it’s kind of like cheating.

No, it really is cheating.

Plus, my tweets are not that exciting.

A few weeks ago, the mom of a friend, loaned me her bodybugg armband. Cathy has been using hers for a long time now and swears by it. I was intrigued but wanted to try it out before committing $200+ to the purchase.

1830
That’s the number of calories I SHOULD be burning on a daily basis. The number I should be burning, even if I SLEEP all day long. The number it should take just to keep me alive.

1595
That’s the number of calories I burn on a typical work day.

I’m not the world’s best about logging what I eat, and I’m the worst about underestimating portion sizes. But, even if I were restricting calories to the number of calories suggested by numerous doctors …. between the 1800-2000 range ….. well, you do the math. I would be gaining weight, or if I were working out, I would be maintaining, but barely.

So, let’s do some math.

To lose the average “healthy” 1-2 lbs per week, I would need to have a caloric deficit of 3500-7000 per week.

1595*7 = 11165
11165-3500 = 7665
11165-7000 = 4165

So my maximum calorie consumption would need to be between 4165 and 7665. Per week. Or, to break that down, between 595 and 1095 per day. That’s FIVE HUNDRED NINETY FIVE calories per day to lose 2 lbs per week.

Holy fuck.

So. Add in 30 minutes of cardio (walking, treadmill) and on those days, I burned 1795. Still less than the number I should be burning if I were ASLEEP.

Let’s do the math again.

1795*7 = 12565
12565-3500 = 9065
12565-7000 = 5565
To lose 1 pound per week I would need to a) do 30 mins cardio every single day. b) eat fewer than 1295 calories per day.

That’s totally not going to happen, so.

I started eating smaller meals more frequently. Like every 2.5 to 3 hours that I am awake. I am loosely, and VERY loosely, following the Six Week Body Makeover. I am not following things to the letter which means I am not losing as quickly as I would if I were …. but that’s not a bad thing. Losing that quickly is not something I can maintain. So I am just using the information learned from following it as a guideline. Protein + fruit in the morning and AM snack. Protein, carb, veggie for lunch. Protein, carb for PM snack. Protein, carb, veggie for dinner. Small fruit for late night snack. Portion control. Lots of water. Cardio (I am working on this one, making it a routine. It’s a challenge.)

Wednesday, with no cardio, I burned 1949 calories. It’s moving up. Yesterday, I burned 2600. I went Christmas shopping and did a lot of walking.

Really, with the holidays (and PMS!) here, it’s all a challenge. But I am working it. Doing the best I can. And there are five fewer pounds than there were 8 days ago.

It’s a start. And next month, I start my new job at my old company, and I will STILL be sitting at a desk. But I’m hoping to make some changes that will keep those numbers up in a doable range.
